STARKVILLE, Miss.--Two nationally recognized Kentucky poets will read from their works Thursday [Sept. 18] at Mississippi State University.
Sponsored by the English department, Brian Barker and Nicky Beer will share selections from their published poems during a 7:30 p.m. free program in the Fowlkes Auditorium of the Colvard Student Union.
Barker, an assistant professor and undergraduate creative writing coordinator at Murray State University, has numerous works in print, including "Animal Gospels," winner of the Tupelo Press Editors' Prize. He holds creative writing and literature degrees from Virginia Commonwealth and George Mason universities, as well as the University of Houston.
Beers, a visiting poet at Murray State, holds degrees from the universities of Missouri-Columbia and Houston, and Yale University. She is a National Endowment for the Arts' Literary Fellow and Poetry Foundation's Ruth Lilly Fellow whose works have appeared in Best American Poetry 2007, Kenyon Review and The Nation, among other publications.
