MEDIA ADVISORY: 'Sonny's' visiting Raymond for a few days

The life-size statue at Mississippi State of former congressman G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery will take a short vacation this week from its pedestal near the university's Drill Field.

Several structural enhancements and minor repairs will be completed by artist Robert Sugg at his studio in Raymond. The standing marble figure will be removed at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, and loaded onto a truck provided by Columbus Marble Works.

The likeness of the beloved longtime public servant and MSU alumnus will be returned to its base at 11 a.m. Friday, the 12th.
