Contact: Sammy McDavid

A top official of the European Commission to the United States will be in the Magnolia State Wednesday and Thursday [Oct. 1 and 2] as part of a visit organized by Mississippi State's Radvanyi Chair in International Security Studies.

Ambassador Angelos Pangratis, deputy head of the commission delegation, will be at the university Wednesday. He will speak to an American history class taking place noon-12:50 p.m. in the Dorman Hall auditorium, then tour various campus locations during the afternoon.

Thursday, Pangratis goes to Jackson, where he is to address the Executive Lecture Forum during a luncheon to begin at 11:45 a.m. at the downtown University Club. While in the capital city, he also is scheduled to meet with Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant, among other stops.

His visit also is sponsored by MSU's Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development.

Pangratis, a native of Greece, holds a doctoral degree from the University of Paris, Pantheon Sorbonne. Before assuming his current duties, he held European Union diplomatic postings in South America, Asia and Africa.

"The Future of E.U.-U.S. Economic and Political Relations" will be the topic of his remarks at both Mississippi programs.

Interested members of the news media are invited to either or both of the ambassador's presentations. To ensure adequate seating at either locale--or set up individual interviews, time permitting--contact Tan Tsai of the Radvanyi Center in advance.
