STARKVILLE, Miss.--Both of the Mississippi State University music department's Jazz Ensembles will be featured Oct. 16 in downtown Starkville for the annual Pops on the Plaza concert.
To begin at 6 p.m. at the Cadence Bank Plaza, the free program is part of the Starkville-MSU Symphony's 2008-09 performance season. The bank is located at the corner of Main and Jackson streets.
In case of rain, the program moves to the Greensboro Center auditorium. The center, also home to the Starkville Public Schools central office, is located at 401 Greensboro St.
Directed by associate director of bands Clifton Taylor, the student ensembles' varied repertoire includes everything from dance-band standards in the tradition of Count Basie and Duke Ellington to Latin blues, rock and funk.
Open to all majors and selected through competitive auditions, the musical groups are among several in the music department.
