STARKVILLE, Miss.--Mississippi State's faculty authors are the focus of two developing campus collections, one in the office of Interim President Vance Watson.
"We have many outstanding faculty scholars, and we want to showcase the books resulting from their research and creative work," Watson said.
The longtime MSU faculty member and administrator is displaying the works on bookshelves in his Allen Hall office--an effort that complements Mitchell Memorial Library's online faculty author database. Currently, each has more than 80 books represented.
"Our fall campaign is to contact all who have donated books to President Watson for display in his office and request they also participate in the library Web site," said LaDonne Delgado.
Delgado, the library's government documents coordinator, is working with Web services specialist Bobby Goff to update existing pages and add new features.
"Individual authors may add their own information or contact me for more information," she explained. "If a book is available in the MSU Libraries, a link from the author's Web site to the catalog entry in the library's automated system will allow easy access to the requested publication."
Some full-text articles also may be linked from the author's Web site, she added.
"For me, it's an honor to display this tangible evidence of scholarly output across a range of disciplines and decades," Watson said. "I'm hopeful both the Faculty Authors Web site the library maintains and the collection in my office will provide an enduring record of faculty contributions."
