The Sonny Montgomery Chapter of the Appalachian Leadership Honors Program is accepting applications until Wednesday, Oct. 1, for the next class of student leaders that begins spring 2009.
This program seeks to shape students into the next "greatest generation" of leaders. The ALHP helps prepare students to enter the workforce by enhancing their leadership potential and instilling character.
ALHP participants, called Fellows, are selected on their academic, leadership and character traits. To become a Fellow, a student must have completed one year of college, have at least two years remaining in his or her undergraduate plan of study, and be in academic good standing with the university.
Students selected as ALHP Fellows will receive a $250 scholarship the first semester of the program and a $500 scholarship for the following two semesters. Fellows undergo a three-semester study of leadership skills and strategies for which they will receive two credit hours per semester. They also learn from local and national leaders in a variety of fields through seminars and lectures.
