STARKVILLE, Miss.--Mississippi State University once again is giving 250 high school musicians across Mississippi an opportunity to perform with one of the oldest university bands in the Southeast, when The Famous Maroon Band hosts "High School Band Day."
Students in grades 9-12 who are members of their high school band are invited to register by Aug. 29 for the Sept. 6 festivities, which will be a part of the Bulldogs' home football game against Southeastern Louisiana.
In addition to playing in the stands during the game, musicians will participate in a combined performance with the Famous Maroon Band in a halftime show featuring more than 500 performers.
"Space is limited to the first 250 pre-paid registrations," said band director Elva Kaye Lance. "We are expecting a large number of applications, so we are encouraging everyone to register as soon as possible before the Aug. 29 deadline."
Lance said the $25-per-student registration fee covers lunch, game admission and a souvenir T-shirt.
Prior to the football game, students will be special guests for an exhibition by the band's drum line and will tour the multi-million-dollar indoor rehearsal hall, which serves both the MSU band and the music department's choral programs.
