STARKVILLE, Miss.--The third annual Mississippi State effort to help university housing residents move into their rooms will take place Aug. 9.
Known as "Moving You to MSU"--or MVNU2MSU, in today's text style--the annual daylong, fall semester "check-in" gets under way at 8 a.m. at Humphrey Coliseum. From there, the students and their parents will be directed to the 15 housing facilities spread throughout the university.
Assistance at the locations will be provided by a host of volunteer faculty, staff and other members of the on-campus community, said Ann Bailey, director of housing and residence life.
"We want all of our incoming residents and their families to be welcomed and embraced by the MSU family," Bailey said. In addition to helping unload vehicles and move belongings into rooms, the volunteers will help direct traffic flow around the buildings' roadways, she added.
For the first time in the modern era of the 130-year-old land-grant institution, first-year male and female students now are being required to live on campus. The new policy exempts those who are: 21 years of age and older by the first class day; married; have custody of dependent children; military veterans with two years of active service; live with parents or guardians in a permanent residence not more than 30 miles from campus; or have a compelling and documented personal circumstance.
