On June 1, 1998, Mississippi State University entered a new era in recreational sports with the opening of the Joe Frank Sanderson Center. In the past 10 years, the Department of Recreational Sports has provided over 5 million visitors with one of the most modern and convenient recreation and fitness facilities in the region.
Named an "Outstanding Indoor Recreation Facility" by the National Intramural/Recreational Sports Association in 2000 and the "Best Fitness Center" in the state by Mississippi Magazine in 2007, the Sanderson Center offers students, faculty, staff, alumni, and many others opportunities to exercise, play sports, learn skills, and socialize.
To recognize this milestone, we are having two celebrations - one actual and one virtual!
We invite you to help us celebrate now by visiting our virtual birthday party. Go to http://www.recsports.msstate.edu/ then click on the 10 year celebration logo on the right side of the page. The virtual party provides an overview of the history of the Department of Recreational Sports, fun facts about Rec. Sports, and a photo album of the Sanderson Center. Be sure to sign the guest book and write greetings, comments, or memories in the birthday card!
On September 5, 2008, we will host an actual birthday at 3:00 pm. Please make plans to join us then at the Sanderson Center for cake and ice cream!
Thank you for your support of the Joe Frank Sanderson Center!
