Contact: Sammy McDavid

The U.S. deputy assistant secretary of defense for East Asia will speak Thursday [May 15] at Jackson's Executive Lecture Forum.

"U.S.-China Military Relations" will be David S. Sedney's topic during the noon luncheon at the downtown University Club.

Organized by the Janos Radvanyi Chair in International Security Studies at Mississippi State University, Sedney's visit to Mississippi also will include meetings Wednesday with Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant and Brig. Gen. William "Bill" Freeman Jr., the state's adjutant general.

Sedney assumed his current defense duties last year after serving for three years as the State Department's deputy chief of mission at the United States Embassy in the Chinese capital of Peking. A graduate of Princeton University and the Suffolk University School of Law, he held several other major positions and received a number of major honors for outstanding achievement while at the State Department.

ELF programs are not public events, but always are open to interested members of the news media. Reporters and other news staff members interested in attending the Thursday program are requested to contact the Radvanyi Chair office as soon as possible at 662-325-4062, 325-8326 or 325-8406.
