A nationally recognized authority in the identification and implementation of successful education programs will address Mississippi State faculty and students Friday [April 11] during a special university program.
Steve Fleischman, vice president of the Washington, D.C.-based American Institutes for Research, will discuss "Is There a Future for Evidence-based Education" during the College of Education's Faculty-Student Research Forum at Bost Extension Center.
A former middle and high school social studies teacher, Fleischman specializes in school improvement programs. He has worked with the Comprehensive School Reform Quality and National High School centers, as well as the What Works Clearinghouse--all of which help educational leaders implement effective program and policy decisions that also meet local needs.
Fleischman's discussion is part of a morning-long program focusing on interdisciplinary research, said J. Elton Moore, associate dean for research and assessment in the College of Education. Among other topics to be discussed will be a session titled "Promoting Interdisciplinary Collaborative Research."
The forum is the first of its kind organized by the college and coordinated with MSU's Office of Research and Economic Development.
"This research forum illustrates the type of research by the College of Education that impacts students at the national, state and local levels," Moore said.
Research centers and institutes on campus associated with the research forum include the Early Childhood Institute, Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Blindness and Low Vision, Center for Educational Partnerships, and T.K. Martin Center for Technology and Disability.
