Students representing 13 southeastern universities will be at Mississippi State March 26-28 for the inaugural Southeastern Natural Resources Graduate Student Symposium.
To be held at the Franklin Center, the symposium is organized by graduate students in the College of Forest Resources at the university. Sponsors for the event include the Division of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine, Office of the Provost, Academic Affairs, and the College of Forest Resources.
The event will include 43 presentations by graduate and undergraduate students on topics including forest products, wildlife management and conservation, conservation ecology, water resources and management, fisheries management and conservation, and forestry and forest management.
The symposium will provide pportunities for graduate students and advanced undergraduate students to gain valuable oral and poster presentation experience while exposing them to potential employers, peers, professors, and topics from across the southeastern U.S.
Five workshops will focus on modeling, geospatial resources, publishing, employability, and improving presentations. The workshops not only help students develop skills but will also provide continuing education credits for professionals.
The symposium also will include a career fair with 15 state, federal, private, non-profit, and non-governmental employers.
Registration is free to Mississippi State students, faculty and administration.
Participating universities include Mississippi State University, University of Tennessee-Knoxville, University of Georgia, Auburn University, Louisiana State University, University of Arkansas at Monticello, University of Kentucky, Texas State University--Austin, Texas State University-San Marcos, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Southern University and A&M College, Clemson University, and Alabama A & M university.
