MSU courses offer 'enriching' alternatives to winter blahs

STARKVILLE, Miss.--Registration is open for more than 20 personal enrichment courses taking place through March at Mississippi State.

Available to all and organized by the university's Division of Academic Outreach and Continuing Education, they cover topics from dancing to knitting to tai chi.

By categories, the selections include:

--Arts and Crafts: still-life drawing, basic interior design and basics of knitting.

--Business and Finance: individual tax overview, business tax overview and business etiquette.

--Computer: basic concepts, basic computers for seniors and basic Web design (both online and face-to-face).

--Food and Wine: wine appreciation and Italian cooking, the latter led by local chef Ty Thames.

--Miscellaneous: volunteer management certificate training, understanding pets and basic sign language.

--Music: Starkville/MSU Community Band and improving solo vocal techniques.

--Recreational and Hobby: photographic journalism, ballroom dancing and Charleston and East Coast swing dancing.

--Wellness and Exercise: yoga and tai chi.
