University energy-reduction measures for holidays

Mississippi State continues efforts to reduce energy consumption, realizing a 15 percent reduction in FY 2007 and a 10 percent reduction in the first quarter of FY 2008. As an added conservation measure, the university has implemented its holiday conservation program, which will continue until the campus resumes operation Jan. 3, 2008.

Most exterior lighting, as well as entrance lighting, will be turned off for areas that include residence halls, commuter parking lots, the bike path, the Drill Field, staff and faculty parking lots, and the Junction. President Foglesong has authorized deans and department heads to stagger work schedules during the reduced lighting period so that faculty and staff may come and go during daylight hours. Additionally, those wishing to request a police escort to and from parking spaces may contact University Police at 325-2121. Beginning Dec 20th at the close of the day, Facilities Management will set controls controls to maintain the following buildings at 40 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, depending upon the type of heating system and controls.
