STARKVILLE, Miss.--Following a national search by an on-campus committee, Mississippi State University is naming a preferred candidate for the position of vice president for finance and administration.
Michael J. McGrevey, who has served as chief of staff and chief financial officer since 2006, will assume the position Jan. 1, 2008, pending on-campus interviews and approval by the state Board of Trustees, Institutions of Higher Learning, said MSU President Robert H. "Doc" Foglesong.
"This is an important leadership and management position, and we are pleased that someone with Mr. McGrevey's experience and knowledge of Mississippi State will fill the role," Foglesong said.
The position was previously held by Ray Hayes, who became vice chancellor for financial affairs at the University of Alabama System.
As vice president, McGrevey will be responsible for all aspects of budget and planning for a complex organization with annual revenues of more than $600 million. He will oversee areas that include, among others, controller and treasurer; facilities management; payroll; printing; and student accounting and receiving.
McGrevey, who retired in 1999 following a 20-year career in the U.S. Air Force, served during his tenure as chief financial management officer at the base, command, theater, and headquarters levels, as well as a budget and program manager at the Pentagon.
Before joining Mississippi State, he headed the Meridian-based Montgomery Institute, a regional think tank supporting economic, education, leadership, and workforce regional capacity-building initiatives. Earlier, he was executive director of the Kemper County Economic Development Authority.
McGrevey holds a bachelor's degree in banking and finance and a master's in management. In addition, he has done doctoral studies in public administration.
