STARKVILLE, Miss.--Mississippi State's longtime military veterans' representative is again being named to the leadership body of the National Association of Veterans Programs Administrators.
Lorene Cox's reappointment for the second consecutive year as Region III representative on the board of directors recently was announced by association president R.K. Williams. Region III includes Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, North Carolina, and Tennessee.
A Maben resident, Cox is a 23-year university employee who has worked continuously on behalf of veterans for the past 17 years. She was named benefits and program coordinator at the campus' G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery Center for America's Veterans at its creation last year.
A memorial to the MSU alumnus and longtime member of Congress for whom the current G.I. Bill is named, the Montgomery Center currently serves more than 600 former military service personnel, their dependents and survivors. Prior to last year, veterans' support services were completed in the Office of the Registrar.
As an NAVPA board member, Cox works with counterparts in the Veterans' Administration and other federal agencies, as well as congressional Veterans' Affairs committees, American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Offices, and other related professional organizations.
The Washington, D.C.-based association was founded in 1975 by program administrators at colleges, universities, trade schools, and apprenticeship programs across the United States to ensure student veterans receive the most complete service and access to their entitled benefits.
