Space Cowboys to host benefit auction

The MSU Space Cowboys, a Department of Aerospace Engineering rocket team, is hosting a benefit auction Nov. 15 at 5:30 p.m. at the Microtel Inn & Suites in Starkville.

All proceeds will benefit the Space Cowboys' outreach program, which directly benefits local schools and students. Items to be auctioned include MSU and airplane memorabilia, artwork, and gift certificates.

The outreach team educates the community about rocketry, as well as promoting an interest in education in general and science, technology, engineering, and math in particular. Last year, the Space Cowboys hosted 12 events that reached more than 300 children in Starkville and the surrounding area.

This year, the team hopes to expand its outreach program, if its benefit auction--and other fundraising efforts--is successful. Members are planning their own competition, the Middle School Launch Challenge. This competition will allow Mississippi middle schoolers to build and compete with their own rockets.
