'Curtain going up!' Theatre MSU announces school-year schedule

STARKVILLE, Miss.--Mississippi State's communication department is announcing four major theatrical productions for the 2007-08 school year.

In addition, department-sponsored Theatre MSU will have two other special programs, one each in the fall and spring semesters.

The university productions include:

--Oct. 18-20, "Helen" by Ellen McLaughlin, a retelling of the Helen of Troy legend, at 7:30 p.m. in the McComas Hall main stage. General admission is $10; $5 for seniors, MSU faculty, staff and students. [The production will be MSU's entry in the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival.]

--Nov. 15, "The Jolly Mon," based on a children's book by Mississippi-born songwriter and performer Jimmy Buffett and daughter Savannah Jane Buffett, 7:30 p.m., McComas main stage. General admission is $5; $2 for children 12 years and under.

--Feb. 27-29, "The Mineola Twins: A Comedy in Six Scenes, Four Dreams and Six Wigs," a satire by Paula Vogel, 7:30 p.m., McComas' lower-level lab theater. General admission is $5 for all.

--April 10-12, "Little Shoppe of Horrors," from the book and lyrics of Howard Menken and music of Alan Menken that became among the longest-running Off-Broadway shows of all time, 7:30 p.m., McComas main stage. General admission is $10; $5 for seniors, MSU faculty, staff and students.

Also scheduled during the fall semester is the Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 North Mississippi High School Drama Festival in the main theater. Times will be announced later for the Theatre MSU- and Mississippi Theater Association-sponsored event. (Visit www.mta-online.org)

During the spring, the annual Student-Directed, One-Act Plays project takes place at 7 p.m. April 23-25 in the lower-level lab theater. General admission is $5.
