MSU decides against retirement incentive

STARKVILLE, Miss.--A retirement incentive considered by Mississippi State University is being tabled for this year.

"We thoroughly explored the possibility, but we believe it is not in the best interest of Mississippi State at this time," said MSU President Robert H. "Doc" Foglesong. "We may revisit this with the IHL Board in the future if circumstances warrant."

Foglesong said the university's unprecedented growth makes an incentive plan unfeasible and not in the best interest of students.

"Our faculty and staff support systems would be severely stressed if we lost an important part of our workforce," he said. "Every member of our team is valuable, and it would be very difficult to lose the continuity and contributions of those eligible to retire."

Mississippi State this fall experienced an all-time high enrollment of 17,039 and the most significant growth it has seen in a decade.
