During a Thursday [Sept. 27] program at Mississippi State, university President Robert H. "Doc" Foglesong will announce the creation of a new endowed professorship in the Bagley College of Engineering. The academic and research position in the department of electrical and computer engineering is being funded through a significant gift from a state-based energy company.
The brief public ceremony begins at 11 a.m. in the front lobby of McCain Hall. Foglesong and other campus leaders formally will accept the gift from the company's president and chief executive officer. The inaugural holder of the new professorship also will be announced.
Electrical and computer engineering is the largest and one of the Bagley College's oldest academic units. Housed in Simrall Hall, the department includes 27 faculty members, 10 administrative and research support staff members, and typically 35 to 40 graduate teaching and research assistants.
Located on the eastern side of MSU's historic Drill Field, McCain Hall is home to, among other units, offices of the engineering dean.
