Contact: Sammy McDavid

Some 80 executives and professionals from around the state are expected at Mississippi State Sept. 18 and 19 for the first University Leadership Summit.

"The Power of Collaboration" will be the overall theme for the series of presentations taking place at the Hunter Henry Center. The event is organized by the College of Business and Industry's Graduate Studies in Business Program and the Industrial Outreach Service.

Program director Barbara Spencer said the conference was created "to provide an opportunity for aspiring executives and motivated professionals to meet and discuss collaborative opportunities, methods and successes, and to develop ideas and skills that can help them to achieve organizational and personal goals.

"This year's agenda includes a strong slate of proven business, military and government leaders who will share personal lessons for success through collaboration," Spencer added.

MSU President Robert H. "Doc" Foglesong will open the sessions at 12:45 p.m. on the 18th. Dan Gaudette, retired senior vice president of Nissan North America Inc., and Rogena Barnes, vice president of human resources for Biloxi's Beau Rivage Resort, will lead the first session to begin at 1:30.

Former MSU baseball player and major league coach Buck Showalter, now senior adviser with the Cleveland Indians franchise; Maj. Gen. Harold Cross, adjutant general of Mississippi; Gray Swoope, executive director of the Mississippi Development Authority; and Blake Wilson, president of the Mississippi Economic Council, will be among other featured speakers. The complete list is available at www.ios.msstate.edu/summit.

While the summit is not a public event, interested members of the news media are invited to attend any or all sessions. For more details, contact Mary Brown of MSU's Industrial Outreach Service at 662-325-0479.
