STARKVILLE, Miss.--Faculty and professional academic advisers from the state's senior and community colleges will gather Oct. 2 at Mississippi State for their annual meeting.
The professional development and continuing education program is designed to help members enhance skills required to successfully guide students through their higher education.
Held in McCool Hall, this year's meeting is being hosted by MSU and its collective advising programs. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. in the building's newly opened atrium.
Members planning to attend, but who are not yet pre-registered, are reminded that the $35 sign-up fee will increase by $10 after Sept. 7. Registration forms and related information are available at www.mam.msstate.edu.
Melissa Moore of MSU's College of Business and Industry is the keynote speaker. "Relationship Marketing 101: Unlimited Enrollment" will be her topic.
An associate marketing professor, Moore is a much-honored faculty member. During her time on campus, she has received several major teaching honors, including the business college's 2006 Louis A. Hurst Outstanding Faculty Member Award.
The 2007 Mississippi Advisers Meeting is being coordinated by MSU professional advisers Rachel Singleton of the College of Forest Resources, Elaine Reed of the College of Arts and Sciences and Lanna Miller of the Adkerson School of Accountancy. Singleton is state representative to the National Academic Advising Association, whose Southeast Region IV chapter will holds its annual conference in Mississippi in 2009.
