STARKVILLE, Miss.--Coinciding with the beginning of classes this week, Mississippi State tomorrow [Aug. 22] is launching its first-ever Web newsletter just for students.

Called Student Express, the three-times-weekly publication will provide timely, unfiltered news for the university's more than 16,000 students, said MSU President Robert H. "Doc" Foglesong. The newsletter can be accessed from the "Student Express" button on MSU's Web page at www.msstate.edu.

"We want our students to have regular, nearly-immediate updates about issues that concern them at Mississippi State," Foglesong said. "Our intention is to report both good and bad news, with a new issue each Monday, Wednesday and Friday."

Foglesong said he earlier this year began an electronic publication for MSU faculty. Called State-Gram, it has provided a way of communicating directly to an important university constituency, he said. "We want students to have similar access to news that affects them."

Foglesong said topics would range from campus security and athletics to the latest information about parking. "We will be broad-ranging in addressing topics of student interest."

MSU Student Express will be coordinated by University Relations research writer Robbie Ward.
