STARKVILLE, Miss.--A Mississippi State education professor is providing an accessible guide to help both classroom teachers and educational supervisors become better writers.

"Write Like a Pro!" by Jack Blendinger of the university's department of instructional systems, leadership and workforce development is a recent release by Kendall/Hunt Publishing Co. of Dubuque, Iowa.

Blendinger, a specialist in educational leadership, said his primary audience can be defined as any member of the education community who desires improvement in composition skills sufficient to become a "good" writer. The term "good" is italicized throughout the 92-page, soft-cover volume to emphasize that "anyone can become a competent, skilled writer through diligent effort," he explained.

Too many in the profession tend to write in obtuse, boring prose, the veteran College of Education faculty member observed. For that reason, he gives special focus to the use of clear, concise language.

"Essentially, 'Writing Like a Pro!' is an interactive handbook that is meant to be used as a ready reference guide pertaining to writing skills," he said. He also expressed hope that "readers (will) use it so much as a practical guide for improving their writing that it literally wears out."

Blendinger began his career in 1956 with the public schools of Kentfield, Calif. A doctoral graduate of the University of Northern Colorado, he joined the MSU faculty in 1990.
