MSU reminding retiree-age Mississippians about free attendance

Contact: Sammy McDavid

STARKVILLE, Miss.--Mississippi residents 60 years of age and older are reminded that Mississippi State now offers tuition-free campus courses.

Previously offered only to those 65 and beyond, a new policy begun with the 2007 spring semester is available on a space-available basis to anyone--university affiliation is not required. The option includes no limits on the number of credit hours that may be taken at no cost, other than specific course and laboratory fees and parking permits.

Courses must be taken either on the Starkville or Meridian campuses; those offered by distance learning do not apply.

"We encourage interested senior citizens to promptly begin the admission and registration processes in order to be placed in the desired courses in time for the first class meeting," said MSU Registrar Butch Stokes.

Fall semester classes begin Monday, Aug. 20, with late registration continuing through the 27th, he added.

For complete information on special registration for students 60 years and older, contact the Registrar's Office at 662-325-2662.
