STARKVILLE, Miss.--A veteran Mississippi State administrator is assuming new responsibilities at the land-grant institution.

Controller and Treasurer Wayne Bland will become the university's interim associate vice president for finance and administration, pending formal approval of the Board of Trustees, State Institutions of Higher Learning.

An MSU employee since 1980, he will oversee functions that include the offices of procurement and contracts; receiving and property control; accounts payable and travel; printing; office supply; and mail services, as well as controller and treasurer.

"Wayne has in-depth knowledge about Mississippi State and its financial systems," said Michael McGrevey, MSU's chief of staff and chief financial officer. "He is the perfect person to lead this important division."

A graduate of S.D. Lee High School in Columbus, Bland earned a bachelor's degree in accounting and a master's in computer science, both from Mississippi State.

"The beginning of my career coincided with the beginning of the personal computer era," Bland said. "I am very interested in computer systems and the efficiencies they help achieve."

Bland will assume responsibilities held until recently by Chris Clifford, who accepted a position at Ohio University in Athens.

A trustee of the University Press of Mississippi, Bland also is a member of the National Association of College and University Business Officers and Southern Association of College and University Business Officers.
