STARKVILLE, Miss.--The National Society of Professional Engineers is bestowing a major honor on the undergraduate coordinator in Mississippi State's Bagley College of Engineering.
Robert A. Green recently was named to the organization's 2007 Fellows class. Chosen by active NSPE members, the designation recognizes exemplary service to the profession, organization and community.
A registered engineer who has been a society member since 1988, Green also directs the Bagley College's leadership program. In this role, he regularly makes appearances before a variety of student and professional groups.
NSPE represents licensed professional engineers in all disciplines. Founded in 1934, the organization includes more than 50,000 members spread among some 500 chapters.
Green received a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering in 1982 and a master's in mechanical engineering in 1984, both from Mississippi State. He currently is pursuing a doctorate in public policy and administration from the university.
Interim Dean Glenn Steele praised Green's years of service to the profession, including his duties as a former president of the Mississippi Engineering Society.
"We in the Bagley College of Engineering are pleased that Robert has been named a Fellow for his many years of outstanding service," Steele said. "Robert has been a leader in Mississippi's professional engineering organization dealing with policies and procedures for professional engineers."
Green also is well known for encouraging MSU engineering majors to seek licensure and pursue other professional goals as they grow and develop in their careers, Steele added.
Green holds the rank of commander in the Navy Reserve. In 2005, he received a master of arts in national security and strategic studies from the U.S. Naval War College.
