STARKVILLE, Miss.--Nearly 70 students are new members of the Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society chapter at Mississippi State University.
Membership in the organization is limited to undergraduate majors ranked in the top 10 percent and graduate and doctoral students in the top 20 percent of their respective academic programs. The programs must be accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
When founded in 1913, the society became the first national honor society in business. Formed from separate honor groups at the universities of California, Illinois and Wisconsin, the organization now includes collegiate chapters on five continents.
"Only the best business students, as well as professionals who earned the distinction of 'best in the business,' can become members of Beta Gamma Sigma," said MSU chapter adviser Carol Lehman. "This latest group of MSU students joins an expanding worldwide network of more than 560,000 who have earned the high recognition, and they certainly have worked very hard for that title."
Lehman is a professor of management and information systems in the College of Business and Industry.
