An authority on international threats and negotiations will discuss in the "contemporary proliferation threat and U.S. response" Thursday [May 31] in Jackson at the University Club.
Acting deputy assistant secretary for threat reduction, export control and negotiations Ambassador Donald A. Mahley will speak about terrorist and other threats and how the United States responds during the university's Radvanyi Chair in International Securities Studies' Executive Lecture Series.
A luncheon will begin at noon, followed Mahlay's discussion and a question and answer session. While the program is not open to the general public, members of the news media are invited to attend any or all sessions that may be of interest. Mahlay's position in the U.S. State Department includes responsibility for chemical and biological weapons threat reduction, missile threat reduction, conventional weapons threat reduction, and export controls.
Ambassador Mahley heads the U.S. Delegation to Biological Weapons Convention activities and is the managing director of the United States National Authority for implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention.
