STARKVILLE, Miss.--A Florida political scientist and researcher will preview the 2008 presidential campaign during an April 19 public program at Mississippi State.
Susan A. MacManus' 3:30 p.m. presentation will take place in the Forum Room of the university's Bryce Griffis Residence Hall. Following the address--titled "Reality Show Politics: What to Expect in 2008"--she will field questions from the audience.
MacManus holds the academic rank of Distinguished Professor of Public Administration and Political Science at the University of South Florida. She also has served as political analyst for WFLA, the Tampa-St. Petersburg television station that is among the state's leading broadcast operations, and been a frequent guest on national and international news programs.
She recently co-authored "Florida Politics" (second edition, with Thomas R. Dye and Aubrey Jewett) and "Florida's Politics: Ten Media Markets, One Powerful State" (with Kevin Hill and Dario Moreno). On her own, she has written "Young v. Old: Generational Combat in the 21st Century" [Westview, 1996] and "Targeting Senior Voters" [Rowman & Littlefield, 2004].
A 1978 Florida State University doctoral graduate, she served 1999-2003 as chair of the Florida Elections Commission. Most recently, she advised the Florida Division of Elections in its development of a statewide poll worker training manual.
In addition to her many accomplishments in the Sunshine State, MacManus was a Fulbright Research Scholar to South Korea in 1989.
