STARKVILLE, Miss.--May 15 is the registration deadline for public and private school teachers interested in Mississippi State's 2007 summer institute on U.S. constitutional history and principles.
"We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution" will be held June 10-15 at the university. Unless desiring graduate credit, those chosen will attend free on a grant provided by the national Center for Civic Education.
Enacted by Congress, the program is funded through the U.S. Department of Education. The Mississippi institute is based in MSU's department of curriculum and instruction and directed by associate professor Susie Burroughs.
Teachers of grade five United States studies, grade eight U.S. history and grade 12 American government are especially encouraged to attend this intense professional development training, Burroughs said.
While there is no charge to attend the institute, interested teachers may choose to receive 4.5 continuing education units by paying a $20 fee.
Opportunities also will be available for those seeking graduate school credits in elementary and secondary education, history or political science. Regular MSU summer tuition rates will apply, however.
For information on the application process, contact Burroughs at 662-325-7124 or sburroughs@colled.msstate.edu.
