Mid-April MSU concert to offer respite from 'tax day' blues

STARKVILLE, Miss.--The Mississippi State Symphonic and Starkville-University Community bands will perform successively at an April 15 campus concert.

The free program begins at 3 p.m. in the McComas Hall theater.

Led by associate director of bands Clifton Taylor, the symphonic group's selections will include "Procession of the Nobles" by Nicholas Rimsky-Korsakov, "Othello" by Alfred Reed, "Bayou Breakdown" by Brant Karrick, and John Moss' arrangement of "Gershwin on Broadway."

Craig Aarhus, assistant director of bands, will guide the community musicians through "Emperata Overture" by Claude T. Smith, "First Suite in E Flat" by Gustav Holst, "American War Fantasy" by Jerry Bilik, "Immer Kleiner" by Adolph Schreiner, and "El Relicario" by Jose Padilla. Instructor Sheri Falcone will be featured on clarinet for the Schreiner piece.
