STARKVILLE, Miss.--A Mississippi State business college leader is being named a Fellow of the Marketing Management Association.

Brian Engelland, head of the university's department of marketing, quantitative analysis and business law, will be the 20th member of the international organization to receive the high honor. The associate professor will be recognized March 29 for his consistent scholarly research and continuing service to the profession.

MMA was founded in 1977 with goal of developing more effective marketing educators. Members name a new fellow each year during their spring conference in Chicago.

Charles Pettijohn, MMA's current executive director, said Engelland has helped advance the field of marketing management through his exemplary professional work.

"Engelland is a tireless worker who has contributed greatly to the discipline," added Pettijohn, also a Missouri State University marketing professor. "His efforts reflect favorably on Mississippi State University as being an institution with nationally recognized faculty who are contributing to marketing scholarship across the nation."

Specifically, Engelland's research has focused on the areas of marketing management deployment, construct measurement and marketing education. He also has held 12 national elected offices in scholarly organizations, including the MMA presidency and a similar position with the Society for Marketing Advances.

Engelland joined MSU's College of Business and Industry faculty in 1997 and has served as department head since 2002. He earned a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from Purdue University in 1969 and a master's in business administration from the University of Cincinnati in 1971. His doctorate was completed at Southern Illinois University in 1993.

Before receiving his terminal degree, Engelland worked for 20 years as a marketing executive with American Cyanamid Co. and Household International.
