STARKVILLE, Miss.--A self-reported NCAA infraction by Mississippi State will require no further action, according to Southeastern Conference officials.

Following the recent visit of a potential recruit to the home of university President Robert H. "Doc" Foglesong with her parents, Foglesong said he responded to a "thank you" e-mail from the student's father.

"The e-mail contact is not allowed under NCAA rules about general correspondence with prospects and their parents, and I just hadn't kept up with the changes," Foglesong said. "I have no excuse."

The university immediately reported the secondary infraction and has been advised by the SEC that no other action needs to be taken.

"This was an unofficial visit, and I had a particular interest in the fact that the father has written a book on leadership and attitude," Foglesong explained.

"We intend to invite him to campus as a speaker in our Appalachian Leadership Honors Program, and we will continue to maintain contact with him through those channels," he added.
