STARKVILLE, Miss.--Twenty one Mississippi State University seniors are included in the 2006-07 edition of Who's Who among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

Each year since 1934, the Tuscaloosa, Ala.-based organization has published a national directory of the most outstanding students on the nation's campuses.

Individuals are nominated by their institutions on the basis of academic achievement, community service, leadership in extracurricular activities, and potential for continued success.

They join an elite group of students from more than 2,000 institutions of higher learning in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and several foreign countries.

This year's MSU selections include (by hometown):

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--Andrea R. Smith, a political science and foreign languages double-major and the daughter of Ruth Smith .

BRANDON--Rebecca E. Charest, a marketing major and the daughter of Harold Charest.

COLUMBUS--Debra J. Brown, a social work major [parents' information not available], and Lauren E. Springer, an English major and the daughter of Libby Springer.

FLOWOOD--Emily B. Stone, an interior design major and the daughter of Bill and Gayla Stone.

JACKSON--Jeffrey R. Orkin, a landscape architecture and landscape contracting double-major and the son of Ted and Donna Orkin; and Stefanie J. Taylor, a biochemistry major and the daughter of Dr. John and Cathy Taylor.

KOSCIUSKO--William B. "Ben" Mims, a communication/journalism major and the son of Gerry and Judy Mims.

MERIDIAN--Psychology majors Kathleen Glass, the daughter of Don and Barbara Glass, and Tara L. Smith, the daughter of Jimmy and Marilyn Smith.

NATCHEZ--Lauren E. Burns, a risk management, insurance and financial planning major and the daughter of Max and Julia Burns.

OCEAN SPRINGS--Kristen M. Sims, a communication major and the daughter of David and Sandra Sims.

OLIVE BRANCH--Emmylou R. Branscome, a communication/public relations graduate and the daughter of Andrew and Devra Branscome.

ONEONTA, Ala.--Jennifer L. Hitt, a broadcast meteorology major and the daughter of Mark and Lynn Hitt.

PRENTISS--Janice M. Hicks, an educational psychology major and the daughter of Jennetta Hicks.

RIDGELAND--Courtney L. DeFoe, a communication major and the daughter of Jim and Laurie DeFoe, and Remey W. Graham, a communication/public relations major and the daughter of Allen and Katherine Graham.

STARKVILLE--Joseph W. "Joey" Brown, a business administration major and the son of Paul and Kathy Brown, and Kendall D. Childers, a banking and finance major and the daughter of Kenny and Patty Childers.

TUPELO--Jenny L. Hester, a biological sciences major and the daughter of Danny and Betty Hester.
