STARKVILLE, Miss.--A groundbreaking theatrical adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's "Jane Eyre" will be the next presentation in Mississippi State's 2006-07 Lyceum Series.

The Acting Company's March 6 performance of the classic 19th century novel brings an award-winning cast to the university's McComas Hall theater.

Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. performance are $15 for adults; $10 for senior citizens 65 and older, by request; and $8 for children 3-12. MSU students are admitted free with valid student identification.

Adapted for stage by British playwright Polly Teale, the play is a timeless coming-of-age story about one of literature's most independent and strong-willed women. Recognized as a masterpiece when published in 1847, "Jane Eyre" remains a startlingly modern blend of passion, romance and suspense.

Critics have praised the Los Angeles-based company's production for transforming Bronte's great novel into a deeply affecting drama.

With Teale's adaptation in the current season, the California acting troupe continues a 34-year tradition of bringing classical productions, talented young actors and teaching artists into American communities. Honors include the American Theatre Wing's Tony, Los Angeles Drama Critics' Circle and Citibank's Excellence in Education awards, among others.

The company has performed more than 125 productions for some 3 million people in 48 states and nine foreign countries. Actors Kevin Kline, Patti LuPone, Rainn Wilson, and Jeffrey Wright are among its alumni.

The Lyceum's final 2007 performance takes place April 23 when the Canadian Brass makes its debut MSU appearance.
