STARKVILLE, Miss.--A nationally recognized scientist in the field of cancer treatment research is this year's selection for the Hunter Henry Lectureship in Chemical Engineering at Mississippi State University.
Mark E. Davis will lead the March 6 public program. Titled "The First de Novo-Designed Cancer Nanomedicine to Reach the Clinic," his presentation begins at 3:30 p.m. in the Eastman Auditorium of the Swalm Chemical Engineering Building.
Davis holds the Schlinger Professorship in Chemical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena. He also is a member of the City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center's Experimental Therapeutics Program, located in nearby Duarte.
Additionally, he leads Caltech's Mark E. Davis Research Group, which seeks to apply the tools of synthetic chemistry and analytical engineering to identify and answer fundamental questions from the physical and life sciences.
Davis completed bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in chemical engineering from the University of Kentucky. His professional achievements have resulted in numerous research and service honors, and he is the first engineer to receive the National Science Foundation's Alan T. Waterman Award.
In addition to authoring some 300 scientific publications and two textbooks, Davis holds more than 40 patents.
Sponsored by MSU's Swalm School of Chemical Engineering, the Henry Lectureship is named for the Canton native and MSU alumnus and major benefactor who is the retired president of Dow Chemical USA.
