STARKVILLE, Miss.--Two of Ludwig van Beethoven's most famous works will be presented during a Feb. 10 concert by the Starkville/Mississippi State Symphony.

The free 7:30 p.m. program in the university's historic and newly refurbished Lee Hall auditorium will be under the baton of Michael Brown, head of Mississippi State's music department.

"Beethoven's Greatest Hits," as the concert is being billed, will feature Symphony No. 5 in C Minor, famous for its "three short and one long" motif often used in commercials, movies and television shows. It will mark the orchestra's first performance of the work, which represented "V for Victory" during World War II.

Also on the program will be the "Emperor" piano concerto, more formally known as Beethoven's Fifth Concerto for Piano. One of the most heralded of all piano concertos, it will feature soloist Rosangela Sebba, an MSU faculty member. The Brazilian native performs internationally, including regular tours in South America.

The concert will open with Beethoven's oratorio "Christ on the Mount of Olives," featuring the 135-voice MSU Concert Choir under the direction of choral activities director Bruce Lesley.
