STARKVIILLE, Miss.--The executive director of an international organization specializing in wildlife capture and handling will speak Oct. 26 at Mississippi State.
Dr. Mark Johnson of Global Wildlife Resources Inc. will lead an hourlong public program beginning at 11 a.m. in the Tulley Auditorium of Thompson Hall. A reception follows in the lobby.
"Wildlife Capture as a Profound Experience: Honoring the Experience in Our Work" is the title of his presentation for the annual fall seminar of the university's Berryman Institute.
Based in Bozeman, Mont., Global Wildlife Resources is a non-profit organization that seeks to promote care and respect for animals touched by wildlife research and management.
Before leading the organization, Johnson was project veterinarian for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's gray wolf reintroduction program in Yellowstone National Park. He subsequently served as the popular park's lead veterinarian.
He also is an adjunct professor at the universities of Montana and Minnesota.
MSU's Berryman Institute is named for Utah native Jack H. Berryman, a 30-year Fish and Wildlife Service veteran who died in 1999.
Founded in 1993 at Utah State University, the organization designated Mississippi State as its eastern unit in 2002. The honor is based on the wildlife and fisheries department's national reputation for research, education and extension related to wildlife management in the Eastern United States.
