STARKVILLE, Miss.--A Mississippi State sophomore arrested Wednesday night [Oct. 4] was suspended immediately from the university and the Bulldog football squad.

Adron L. Chambers of Pensacola, Fla., a 20-year-old general business administration major and a defensive back, was arrested by the University Police Department on a charge of attempted sexual battery.

The alleged assault occurred earlier Wednesday at a campus housing facility. The victim was another MSU student.

"Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our students, and we began an immediate investigation," said Mike White, dean of students. "Based on the gathered evidence, Mr. Chambers was formally charged Wednesday night."

According to MSU student policies regarding sexual assault, Chambers will be suspended from the university pending an on-campus hearing.

Head Football Coach Sylvester Croom also has suspended Chambers from the team.

The felony charges will be handled separately according to state judicial procedures.
