MSU rehab counseling specialist on track as U.S. association head

STARKVILLE, Miss.--A College of Education faculty member at Mississippi State is the new president-elect of the National Rehabilitation Counseling Association.

Charles D. Palmer is an associate professor and clinical coordinator in the department of counseling, educational psychology and special education's nationally ranked and accredited graduate rehabilitation counseling program. He joined the university faculty in 1998.

A University of Arkansas doctoral graduate, Palmer assumes NRCA's highest elective office next year after completing his current administrative term.

The Virginia-based association is the largest organization representing professionals in the field. A division of the National Rehabilitation Association, it was founded in 1958.

In addition to his teaching and research duties on campus, Palmer has served the rehabilitation community in numerous capacities at the local, state and national levels. He has been a member of NRCA's board of directors since 1999 and most recently was the Southeast regional representative.

He also is a member of the Council on Rehabilitation Education's Commission on Standards and Accreditation, the national accrediting organization for graduate counseling programs. Additionally, he is a member of the editorial board of the Rehabilitation Counseling Bulletin, a professional journal.
