STARKVILLE, Miss.--Parents and families of the Famous Maroon Band will be honored next Saturday [Oct. 28] at Mississippi State University.

More than 800 have registered to join their sons, daughters, brothers, and sisters for the traditional march into Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field in advance of the 1:30 p.m. football game between the MSU Bulldogs and University of Kentucky Wildcats.

In addition to sitting with their band members during the Southeastern Conference contest, Parents Day participants will be recognized at halftime. They will conclude the day by joining the 300-member marching unit and its staff afterwards for a tailgate dinner.

"This year, the Famous Maroon Band includes students from 12 states who represent almost every academic major the university offers," said band director Elva Kaye Lance. "We also should note that 85 percent of the band call Mississippi home."

Founded in 1902, the Maroon Band Program is among the oldest and best-known marching units of its kind in the Southeast. The group is featured at all home and many road football games.

During basketball season, smaller pep bands support the Bulldog team at Humphrey Coliseum and at many road games.
