STARKVILLE, Miss.--During a Nov. 13 appearance at Mississippi State, the nationally acclaimed dance troupe Ailey II will present a signature program of works by contemporary choreographers.

The 7:30 p.m. performance in historic Lee Hall auditorium is a part of the university's 2006-07 Lyceum Series.

New York-based Ailey II is recognized for merging the spirit and energy of the country's best young dance talent with the creative vision of today's most outstanding emerging choreographers. Under the direction of artistic director Sylvia Waters, the company emphasizes a balance of repertoire, technique and performance.

Waters, who was appointed in 1974 by Alvin Ailey as his successor, has guided Ailey II to its current status as one the nation's more popular dance troupes. She also has combined a rigorous touring schedule with extensive community outreach programs.

The group's 2006-07 tour presents a diverse program drawn from both Ailey classics and contemporary choreographers. The repertoire includes such numbers as "Ailey Highlights," "Beauty," "Blues Suite," "How Small a Thought," "Mourner's Bench," and "Revelations," among others.

During the season, Ailey II also is performing in more than 40 other locations nationwide, including the MSU Riley Center for the Performing Arts in Meridian.

Available at the door, general admission tickets for the Starkville performance are $15 for adults, $10 for senior citizens (65 and over by request), and $8 for children 3-12. MSU students will be admitted free with student identification.

Individual reserved tickets are available in advance at www.ticketweb.com.
