STARKVILLE, Miss.--Mississippi State will observe the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorists' attacks on New York and Washington with a simple ceremony at the university's Mitchell Memorial Library.
The public program begins at 9 a.m. in the west entrance (from the Drill Field) lobby.
Following presentation of the Stars and Stripes, recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence, MSU President Robert H. "Doc" Foglesong will speak. A singing of the hymn "America the Beautiful" concludes the activities.
Participants also will be encouraged to spend time visiting a "memory wall" developed by library staff members to reflect the many notes, memorials, photographs, and other items placed on the protective fences surrounding the destroyed World Trade Center site in Manhattan.
Other materials capturing the national tragedy will fill display cases throughout the building.
