STARKVILLE, Miss.--President Robert H. "Doc" Foglesong and a host of other Mississippi State volunteers will help cart clothes, computers and other personal belongings when fall semester students arrive Saturday [Aug. 12].
The annual event, now being called "Moving You to MSU" (MVNU2MSU, for short), will involve approximately 200 university employees who will greet parents and new students, answer questions and help with lifting and moving. Activities begin at 8 a.m.
The new W. Bryce Griffis Hall, home to the Shackouls Honors College, and another adjacent, soon-to-be formally named residence facility will be among those opening their doors this fall. Joining Roy H. Ruby Hall, which opened last fall as a part of the Northeast Village complex, the new facilities feature such amenities as wireless Internet connection, private baths in each room and individually controlled thermostats.
MSU family members assisting students and their families will be identified with special "Move-In Day" T-shirts, said Ann Bailey, director of housing and residence life.
"We've found this to be a very special day for both our students and volunteers," she said. "Especially for freshmen, it is an early opportunity to experience the caring atmosphere for which Mississippi State is known."
Bailey said approximately 90 percent of MSU's incoming freshmen live in campus residences.
