STARKVILLE, Miss.--Fifty-two Mississippi State students are being honored by the university's School of Accountancy for various academic achievements.
Some are receiving scholarships and assistantships for the 2006-07 school year ranging $10,000-$11,000 each. In some cases, the amounts include the waiver of tuition and/or payment for campus work up to a maximum of 20 hours per week.
The school is a part of MSU's College of Business and Industry--one of the oldest academic programs of its kind in the Southeast. Dramatic growth brought on, in part, by the demand of students seeking degrees in the major led in 1979 to the elevation of accounting from a department-level program to its current status as a school.
At present, nearly 350 students are seeking accounting degrees at the bachelor's- and master's-degree levels.
