STARKVILLE, Miss.--Mississippi State's Collins Speaker Series begins its 2006-07 series Sept. 7 with an address by university President Robert H. "Doc" Foglesong.

The public program gets under way at 3 p.m. in the John Grisham Room of Mitchell Memorial Library.

Established in 2000, the speaker series is a memorial to Morris H.W. Collins Jr., founding executive director of MSU's John C. Stennis Institute of Government. Guest speakers are invited to discuss their lives and public careers.

The programs are jointly sponsored by the Stennis Institute, the library's Congressional and Political Research Center and the Stennis-Montgomery Association, a student organization focused on preparing members for political and public-service careers. (SMA is a memorial to Stennis and G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery, longtime members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, respectively.)

Foglesong, a retired four-star general who led the U.S. Air Force's European command before retiring in January, became the 128-year-old land-grant institution's 18th chief executive in April. He holds bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in chemical engineering from West Virginia University.
