STARKVILLE, Miss.--Five Mississippi State mechanical engineering majors are receiving scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,000 from the American Foundry Society, an international organization of about 13,000 members in 47 countries.
The Foundry Educational Foundation Scholarships are awarded to students with demonstrated interest in the metal casting industry and the society, which includes 48 local chapters and 34 student chapters in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The awards are based on active participation in AFS student chapter events, registry with the foundation and classroom accomplishments related to metal casting.
Members of the MSU chapter who won scholarships included (by hometowns):
CARROLLTON--Chad A. Wheeley, a senior and the son of Shonnie Wheeley, $500;
PETAL--Robert G. Neel, a senior and the son of William and Carol Neel, $500;
SCOTTSBORO, Ala.--Kyle Thompson, a graduate student and the son of Billy and Janet Carver, $1,000;
STATE LINE--Cornelia H. Hayes, a senior and the daughter of Kurt and Elisabeth Mueller, $500;
VICKSBURG--Alexander R. Williams, a graduate student and the son of Robert Earl Williams and Isabel Kotlarski Adams, $500; and
WEST POINT--Jeremy L. Mowry, a graduate student and the son of Marlin and Peggy Mowry, $1,000.
