STARKVILLE, Miss.--A top administrator in Mississippi State's Bagley College of Engineering now will have more opportunities to assist minority students on the nation's college and university campuses.
Tommy J. Stevenson, assistant dean for diversity programs and student development, recently was appointed to the Career Communications Group's Development Institute for Emerging Leaders Program Advisory Committee.
Based in Baltimore, Md., CCG works to promote minority student achievement in mathematics- and science-based disciplines. Its programs also focus on creating a forum for outstanding students to interact with leaders of industry, government and academia.
"I am excited about the opportunity to aid in the development of programs that will enhance the holistic development of future minority scientists and engineers at Mississippi State and across the nation," Stevenson said.
Donna Reese, an associate dean of engineering, said Stevenson is no stranger to implementing strategies designed to aid in increasing diversity on all levels.
"Working with this advisory committee will allow him to share information strategies that the college is using to improve its diversity as well as gather information in best practices from other school that may be implemented at MSU," Reese added.
Stevenson, an MSU alumnus who holds a doctorate from Bowling Green State University, also directs the Bagley College's Center for Engineering Student Excellence.
