Students interested in MSU architecture should make 'Design'

STARKVILLE, Miss.--An eight-day summer workshop at Mississippi State will help prospective students begin to prepare for careers in architecture.

The June 16-23 "Design Discovery" camp is offered annually by the School of Architecture, a part of the university's College of Architecture, Art and Design. It is designed to give incoming freshmen and high school students age 16 or older a preview of architectural educational requirements. June 7 is the registration deadline.

Activities are designed specifically to simulate the information processing and individual skill and intensity levels required of enrolled students. The campus experiences should enable participants to make an informed career decision about the major and its related disciplines.

The camp has proven especially helpful to those beginning their studies in the fall in Mississippi's only academic curriculum in the professional field.

Design Discovery always is scheduled to coincide with two-day Freshman Orientation sessions organized by the university's Office of Admission and Scholarships. This year's camp is being held concurrently with orientation programs June 15 and 16, and 23 and 24.

Design Discovery registration and most programs will be held at Giles Hall, home of the architecture school. The total camp cost of $500 includes tuition, housing and most meals. Each application also includes a $100 non-refundable processing fee.

Through the support of Johnson-McAdams P.A., a Greenwood architectural firm, a limited number of scholarships is available to Leflore County residents or minority students. Application forms are available at the college office.
